Every month, Solve Oregon coordinates community driven efforts to clear invasive species from West Linn’s biggest parks. Volunteers are needed year-round, and events are open to anyone 13 or older, so get some fresh air and contribute to the health and longevity of our local parks!
Mary S. Young is the largest park in West Linn. At an expansive 128 acres with over five miles of trails spanning multiple paths, this park is a favorite for local birdwatchers and wildlife observers. Multiple large sport fields are available, as are several picnic shelters (by reservation), making it a popular park for family barbecues. You can even let the family pooch splash around and make friends at the off-leash dog area!
You can find Sahallie Illahee Park just south of Mary S. Young, located off Horton Road. Offering two separate play structures for youths, basketball pads and additional game space, this park is a great spot for parents to bring children and their friends. Just to the west lies Ibach Nature Park, a smaller area that offers an additional 1.2 acres of trails and wildlife to experience once you’ve finished playing at Sahallie Illahee.
If boating or planned social events are the name of the game, look no further than Willamette Park. Sitting where the Tualatin River meets the Willamette, this is the perfect spot to canoe, kayak or paddleboard! At 15 acres, this park has a stage area, two large covered picnic areas, and a gazebo — all fitted with water and electricity — making it a local favorite for festivals and events. Visitors will also find areas to play sports and games including baseball, volleyball and horseshoes. Wi-Fi is now available throughout Willamette Park, providing a relaxing environment to study or work.
Further east you can find seven acres’ worth of serene riverside respite in Maddax Woods. It’s hard to beat a relaxing stroll among gorgeous foliage with direct access to the Willamette River. If you’re looking for some inner peace or a good loop to run with your dogs, this is precisely where you can find it! Maddax’s verdant wooded trails have many picnic tables and benches and make for the perfect afternoon getaway date.
For those hoping for a taste of the untamed Pacific Northwest like only Oregon can serve, Wilderness Park will provide! At over 50 acres, there is a tremendous amount to explore through the many winding trails. Multiple access points from Clark Street, Oregon City Boulevard, Prospect Street, and Windsor Terrace make this location easy to get to. Wilderness Park features dense deciduous forest, green and teeming with fauna at all times of the year. Hikers will enjoy the endless canopy of pines and tranquility of nature. A favorite of backpackers and those with adventurous dogs.
